Poetry and songs were written about them and coins minted in their honour. Some of these have also been reflected in Philately. One of the first polygraphic reproductions on a Greek stamp was the bronze statue of an young Olympic champion. It was found in the sea near Marathon in 1925. This stamp is now a rare item as Greece had undergone a major political change at the time of its issue. However, this marathon boy appeared on Greek stamps several times.
