olympic longjump
One
of the most fiercely contested events of the Amsterdam Olympics in
1928 was the long jump. The
two most powerful contenders for the gold medal were Ed. Hamm of USA and Silvio Cator of Haiti. Here they both set up world records. At the Games
Hamm was the winner but Cator had the last word when he later jumped a
distance of 7 meters 93.7 cm. Haiti stamps (7 in nos.) that were
issued to commemorate Cator's result have gained considerable value.
